Monotype is a printmaking technique that produces a single, unique image rather than an edition. In this approach, a sheet of acetate is fully inked, then selectively wiped or drawn into to remove ink. The image is created by subtraction: calligraphic tools, cloths, or fingers are used to lift away ink, revealing the composition in negative. When printed or left as-is, the result has a painterly, expressive quality, combining drawing and painting through the act of erasure.
